1.3.1* This guide consists of a number of alternative approaches to life safety. Each chapter is a different system independent of the others and is to be used in conjunction with the NFPA 101, Life Safety Code.

Stay up-to-code and protect building occupants using alternative life safety approaches in the 2010 NFPA 101A.
NFPA 101A provides alternative approaches to life safety for the following occupancy types
·   Health care
·   Residential board and care
·   Detention and correctional
·   Business
·   Educational
Each chapter is a different system independent of the others and is intended to be used in conjunction with the current edition of NFPA 101? Life Safety Code?.
The 2010 edition of NFPA 101A Guide on Alternative Approaches to Life Safety has been updated to incorporate technical changes to the five Fire Safety Evaluation Systems (FSES) to assure that they accurately measure equivalency against the requirements in the 2009 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.
